Beauty Review: Violent Lips Temporary Lip Tattoos

My beauty-maven sister, Chantal, recently discovered temporary lip tattoos, a trend I'm totally fascinated by but probably won't try anytime soon! So instead, I asked Chantal to write a guest post about this edgy new lip treatment. Here's her review - and gorgeous photos to illustrate. —BB

A friend of mine recently introduced me to the amazing new idea of temporary lip tattoos. Honestly, my first reaction was, "Why didn't I think of that?!" In my mind, this is brilliant - and the beauty world seems to agree, with magazines, celebs and fashionistas everywhere loving the trend. It's fun, cheap, easy and non-committal.

Violent Lips has an amazing array of fun and sexy lip designs, I picked up a set of the Pink Cheetah, and love them! I'm looking forward to sporting other designs for special nights out. They are super easy to apply (they are just like the temporary tattoos you played with as a child) and in case you need a visual aid, they have a great little video tutorial on their website to walk you through the steps.
Violent Lips lasted a super long time, and then were simple to remove using baby oil. They take a second to get used to, you will be aware that they're there at first, but after a couple of minutes I forgot them and could just enjoy myself.

Now, I love them - but I must warn they are not for the faint of heart. This is still a very new trend, and it turns heads. If you don't want attention, don't put these babies on! But, I do…and they're fabulous! Tons of girls approached me and asked what they are and who makes them.

I highly recommend them, for $14.95 for three pairs you can't afford not to have this much fun with your lips - I'm looking forward to multi-packs (personally I think this is a better way to go than three of a particular style) and Glitterattis, which are all sparkled out! I'm excited by this new trend, and happy with the quality and design selection of Violent Lips.

do they stay on through eating, drinking, talking, etc.? what are they made out of? what does it feel like? what happens if you lick your lips? nice photos but i would have liked more details in the review!

Hey Jane! They do stay on through all of that- I actually ate some fish tacos while wearing mine, and had a couple of different drinks (not through a straw) and they survived- on the violent lips website its recommended to avoid oily food (since oil removes the tattoos) and to drink through a straw whenever possible-talking was absolutely not a problem! They feel like... hmmm... that's a tricky question- I stopped noticing them on my lips, but when I touched them with my fingertips they kind of feel like when you're little and put elmer's glue on your fingers and it dries- essentially smooth and dry. Even though they feel dry to the touch they don't make your lips feel dry (and I am super super sensitive to having dry lips) Nothing happens when you lick your lips, although during the night I didn't do it very often. When I wanted to finally take them off at the end of the night I decided to see if I could manage to wipe or lick them off and it wasn't happening- I even tried rubbing them with soap and a towel and that didn't get them off either. Also, how long they last depends on how you apply them, and how you care for them during wear. Since baby oil removes them, I don't suggest layering any kind of lipgloss over the tattoos; that could soften and remove the tattoo prematurely. Also, how you prep your lips before application will also make a difference in how long they last. I made sure to wash my lips and exfoliate them prior to applying the lip tattoos. This ensures a clean, even surface for the design to adhere to. And if you wanted to be extra sure they will last you could also use some Benefit She-laq on top to keep the party going even longer! I honestly am not sure what they are made of- and it does not specify on the packaging or their website. Thanks for the questions!
