If there's one thing I love as much as boots, it's winter coats. While I won't hesitate to forgo style in lieu of survival, there are ways to look good while staying warm—and having a chic wool coat in your arsenal is one of them. Now to be completely honest, I'm not sure a Target coat will have what it takes to withstand a New England winter, but they sure are looking good this season. So I bought one as a sort of test. My gut says it won't be warm enough (I grew up in Chicago, after all), but we shall see! I'm a 16-year-old girl going on an 8-day vacation with my family over November break to the Bahamas—and I have no idea what to pack whatsoever. Any way you could help me out?! —Anon

I've never been to the Bahamas, so hopefully my readers can jump in and offer some tips! My advice would be to consider the types of activities you'll be doing while vacationing and then plan outfits accordingly. The weather should be sunny most of the time and pleasantly warm, however you should always be prepared for rain, chilly air conditioned spaces and unexpected temperature changes. You'll need your bathing suit, of course, comfy jeans and shoes for daytime activities, plus some cute tops and relaxed dresses for any evening activities, like going to a nice restaurant or catching a show.

The holiday season is upon us, and this year more shoppers are turning to the internet to get all their holiday shopping needs met. Since I have friends and family in the Midwest and on the East Coast, I will definitely be doing most of my shopping online. It's convenient and there are deals aplenty! Shopping online allows me to hone in on the best gifts at the best prices. At least, that's my strategy this year! Here's how I'll be shopping this holiday season, share your tips in the comments:

Tips for Shopping Online and Staying within Your Budget this Holiday Season

Gift yourself with a game plan. Sounds more fun than "set a budget" right? Before you start shopping, come up with a ballpark figure of what you want to spend. Visualize how happy you'll be in January once you've followed through with your plan!
Start shopping yesterday. Traditionally, the deals get better as the holidays grow closer, but things are different this year: Retailers are carrying less inventory, so you might be better off shopping early for those hot products (toys especially). I'm actually looking forward to getting all my holiday shopping done ahead of time for once!
Never shop without a coupon. Check out sites like RetailMeNot.com, which I've mentioned in the past as one of the best sites to get reliable coupon codes. They've even set up Black Friday and CyberMonday deal pages with countdown clocks to those two huge shopping days.
Try "stacking" coupon codes. Some online stores like Victoria's Secret actually let you enter more than one coupon code to get additional discounts, free shipping or free gifts.
Comparison shop online even if you plan to buy in store. Online price comparison engines like BeatMyPrice.com make it easy to guarantee you are getting the best deal available.
Be sure to scan for sale and return policies to make sure you can get a refund of the difference if the price drops after you have made your purchase. Take advantage of price protection services like PriceProtectr.com to keep track of your purchases so you'll know when you may be able to get a price adjustment.

Beauty Review: Christopher Drummond Beauty

With the recent launch of some new products to the Christopher Drummond Beauty makeup collection—an innovative line created by former model and professional makeup artist Christopher Drummond—the company sent me free sample sizes of a few of their products to test and review. This line prides itself on being "100% natural, vegan, made with organic ingredients." I like it because it's great makeup.

The newest product to become a part of the Christopher Drummond line is the (2) Revitalizing Facial Serum ($55), which contains the "breakthrough" organic ingredient DMAE along with carrot extract, meadow foam extract, aloe, sugar cane and vitamins. This product certainly seems to have the ability to do it all! Firm, lift, tighten, hydrate, exfoliate and fight the effects of aging (whew!). Of course, only time will tell if this product can deliver on all its promises, but what I can say with certainty is that it feels great going on, absorbs into the skin nicely and leaves no greasy or sticky feeling in its wake. If I could afford to drop $55 on this stuff, I would, but I can't…so I won't.

Off the Rack: My New Carlos Falchi Bag from Target

Well, I did it. I finally went to check out the Carlos Falchi for Target handbag collection yesterday afternoon and I came home with the Flap Hobo in Gray Collage ($39.99). This bag was one of my favorites from the lookbook, and it stole my heart when I saw in person. I was kinda smitten by the entire collection. I don't know why, I've never been particularly fond of faux reptile skins (and I'd never carry the real deal…even though I wear leather…topic for another post), but the Falchi bags just did it for me. Snakeskin patchwork should read ostentatious, and yet the collection's dark colors, modern shapes and simple hardware combined to create a tasteful, vintage-rock aesthetic with subdued glamour. I love love love my bag, hope it holds up although I plan on using it lightly to start (going out to dinner and stuff).

Who else is loving this line? Which bag(s) did you buy?

Beauty Review: Everday Minerals Shady Stroll Collection Eyeshadow

Mineral makeup is here to stay, and I definitely think that Everyday Minerals is here to stay too. I recently received a complimentary product from their line to review, namely, the Shady Stroll Collection ($10 at everydayminerals.com). This eyeshadow quad includes four colors with hints of shimmer: grey, navy blue, purple and cream. These colors are versatile since they can take you from day to night, depending on how you apply them. Plus, you get loads of pigment (a little goes a long way, the mark of a good eyeshadow) and the brush that's included actually works really well in terms of applying and blending. With this particular collection, I loved the way I could create a subtle, smokey eye that accentuated my blue/green irises.

Since makeup is such a visual, artistic endeavor, I wanted to mention how cool the Everyday Minerals website looks, too. Combined with the poetic names they give their colors, the whimsical illustrations adorning the site make you want to be a part of their world. The colors and textures make you feel more like you're playing with an artist's palette than with makeup. With names like "Anna Karenina" and "Bubble Tea," how can you resist?

Delicious marketing aside, when I get a freebie, the question I ask myself is, would I buy this product again if I had to drop my own money down for it? And the answer in this case is a resounding yes. I think $10 is a very reasonable price to pay for a high quality eye-shadow quad (it's comparable to what you'd pay for Sonia Kashuk at Target, less than what you're pay for MAC at a department store). In the future, I hope to try products from the rest of their line too.

Six Beauty Don'ts That Will Help You Look Younger

Magazines, TV shows and advertisements always seem to be telling us what to buy and what to do to help us look younger and more beautiful. But there are arguably just as many things we should not be doing—things that cost absolutely nada—which can help us achieve similar results. So here's a quick list of 6 beauty don'ts that might just help improve your already amazing good looks.

Don't scrub your skin with harsh soap. If you lather up until you've reached that squeaky clean feeling, you've gone too far. This holds true for both skin and hair. Your body's natural oils are there for a reason—no need to strip them away entirely only to replace them with inferior man-made products (which we all use but just sayin').

Don't touch your face. Aside from your morning and/or bedtime beauty routine, try to keep hand-to-face contact to a minimum. This means no pimple popping, no extracting black-heads (gross, but we all do it), no nervous picking or pulling or tugging. I'm convinced that messing with your skin just makes it worse and can even lead to scarring. Your hands also carry germs and oils that you're spreading to your face which can potentially lead to breakouts.

Don't skip sunscreen in the winter. We need sunlight to help our bodies produce vitamin D, elevate our moods and set our biological clock, but too much sun exposure speeds signs of aging and all that bad stuff. The sun's harmful rays are always present to some extent, so use a moisturizer with sunscreen in the fall and winter, too.

Don't let yourself get dehydrated. When it's cold out, we sometimes tend to forget to drink enough water but it's obviously important to do so year-round. You don't have to chug gallons a day, just make sure you stay hydrated with delicious, filtered tap water.

Don't buy expensive beauty products—especially ones that make too-good-to-be-true claims. Makeup is fun, I get it, but the truth is you don't have to spend a fortune on quality, effective products. The drugstore or health foods store has everything you need to enhance your natural beauty. Remember, just because you pay more for something doesn't mean you're getting more.

Don't wear antiperspirant every day. I am not a medical doctor (duh) but something tells me it can't be healthy to apply a chemical that prohibits your body from naturally perspiring every single day, for years on end. I'm not saying antiperspirant has been linked to any types of diseases or cancers, but I think common sense dictates giving your skin a breather (literally) every once in a while is probably a good precautionary measure.

BB: What makes your jewelry collection stand out from other lines? And who do you imagine wearing your jewelry?
MS: All of the pieces are designed so you can change your look from day to day. Some days you might feel retro and other days a little more girly or classic. Women are never one thing all the time, so I designed my collection to appeal to every girl.

BB: What is your favorite piece in Grayce?
MS: It's hard to answer that, but for daytime, my favorites are the Grayceful necklace and the Fireball Necklace. When it comes to a night out, whether it is for fun or for work, I like the Lovely Layered Necklace, Molly Cuff and Cocktail Party Ring.

BB: How can jewelry help you pull together an easy, chic look for the holidays?
MS: If you are sticking with basic colors and simple silhouettes, use jewelry to add pop. I recommend building your outfits around the jewelry you want to wear.

BB: Statement necklaces are huge in fashion right now. What's one simple way to wear these bold pieces without looking like a fashion victim?
MS: Just remember that your jewelry and your clothing shouldn't compete.

Your Fall/Winter 2009 Wardrobe Checklist

The Fall/Winter 2009 season is well underway, but I've received a number of requests for a wardrobe checklist from readers (and honestly, I needed to put one together for myself anyways), so here goes! Let me know what I missed in the comments.

Your Fall/Winter 2009 Wardrobe Checklist

Long sleeve layering tees in neutral hues with different necklines, ie. scoopneck, v-neck, turtleneck. These will go under everything from button down plaid shirts to dolman sleeve sweaters to blazers.
Cardigans: Look for the latest shapes like open front, cascade (really drapy), cocoon, or boyfriend.
Jeans: As long as you have some great dark skinnies and dark bootcuts, you're covered.
Jeggings: Denim leggings, great for pairing with short dresses, tunics and tucking into boots.
Chunky scarf: Infinity scarves (aka circle or loop scarves) are big this season, as are stripes, subdued animal prints, antique florals, faux fur and paisley.
A warm coat you love that fits great: A wool peacoat or trench looks sharp, flatters all figures, and you can wear it to the office then out to dinner afterwards. This season, consider something with military detailing, an interesting collar, or even a ruffle.
For going out: A sequin tank; any top with an embellished neckline or ornamentation on the shoulders; a statement necklace. If you have these items, you can wear them a million ways. Pair that sequin top with jeans, heels and a blazer. Ditto with the embellished top—or, tuck that tee into a pencil skirt and toss on some ankle boots. Lace tights are another budget-friendly way to get dolled up: Add these to your fave LBD from last season, and you've got yourself a whole new look.
Already in Your Closet: You should already own a fab white blouse, fab pencil skirt, black blazer (velvet, tuxedo style or boyfriend) and black platform pumps to reach for when creating new combos.
On Your Feet: One pair of riding boots, one pair of black knee-high "dressy" boots, one pair ankle boots.
On Your Nails: Dark polish, like pewter, indigo, green.
On Your Shoulder: Saddlebags, big bags, studded bags, faux-croc, faux-snakeskin, chain details—whatever catches your eye!
Wild Cards: On-trend pieces to try out this season may include a faux-fur vest, leather pants, sequin leggings, zipper embellished anything, something red, something leopard print. Be brave and pick at least one thing that's outside your comfort zone!

So when I need a party outfit, I usually head to Forever 21. Do you like their stuff?

If you like to be comfy, you could pair this amazing top:

...with your fave dark-wash jeans and some black boots. Carry a black open-front drapy cardigan that you can toss on when you're cold, then bunch up in a ball and toss in your purse when you don't need it.

...wear with dark opaque tights, comfy black boots (like these) and top with a black blazer that you can keep on or take off depending on the situation.

Clutches are fun but you might forget it someplace, so I'd opt for a fun evening bag with a strap so it stays close by. You could always wrap your cardi or blazer kinda over the bag to keep hands free.

After weeks of wearing hot pink polish over the summer, I was ready for a change, and going dark seemed a natural choice. While waiting in line to check out at Forever 21, the impulse bins worked their magic on me and I ended up buying a bottle of L.A. Girl Flare Bright Delights Nail Lacquer in Indigo. Best $2.80 I've spent in a long time! I love the glossy ink-blue hue that reads like black in low-light settings. I'm wearing one coat in the photo shown here; two coats gives you a slightly deeper, darker blue. L.A.
