My New Frye-Inspired Boots from Target

As holidays with my family now involve three energetic dogs and two adorable nephews under the age of 6, not to mention unpredictable Chicago weather, my uniform for looking presentable yet comfortable involves boots, skinnies and tunic sweaters. Simple, functional, stylish. The newest addition to said boot arsenal is the Mossimo Supply Co. Katherine Leather Engineer Boot ($49.99), which my sister managed to find for me in-store after I waited too long and they sold out online. Sis, I owe you one!! I love these boots. These boots are made for walkin'. Rugged, tough, timeless. They will require some breaking in but so far, I love wearing them. Anyone else score a pair of these?

Off the Rack: Winter Coats at Target

Merona Wool Topcoat in Gray Plaid, $59.99

If there's one thing I love as much as boots, it's winter coats. While I won't hesitate to forgo style in lieu of survival, there are ways to look good while staying warm—and having a chic wool coat in your arsenal is one of them. Now to be completely honest, I'm not sure a Target coat will have what it takes to withstand a New England winter, but they sure are looking good this season. So I bought one as a sort of test. My gut says it won't be warm enough (I grew up in Chicago, after all), but we shall see! If you're looking for a second coat that you can wear with certain outfits, then definitely check out the offerings at Target. Here are some highlights, photographed by yours truly so you can compare the product photos with "real life." (Click any image to go to Target.com.) Who's loving Target's coats this year?

Off the Rack: My New Carlos Falchi Bag from Target

Off the Rack: Carlos Falchi for Target

Well, I did it. I finally went to check out the Carlos Falchi for Target handbag collection yesterday afternoon and I came home with the Flap Hobo in Gray Collage ($39.99). This bag was one of my favorites from the lookbook, and it stole my heart when I saw in person. I was kinda smitten by the entire collection. I don't know why, I've never been particularly fond of faux reptile skins (and I'd never carry the real deal…even though I wear leather…topic for another post), but the Falchi bags just did it for me. Snakeskin patchwork should read ostentatious, and yet the collection's dark colors, modern shapes and simple hardware combined to create a tasteful, vintage-rock aesthetic with subdued glamour. I love love love my bag, hope it holds up although I plan on using it lightly to start (going out to dinner and stuff).

Who else is loving this line? Which bag(s) did you buy?

I loved this green satchel, too, but couldn't justify buying two bags in one trip. Sniff, sniff
